The weeks following Rim have been quite a blur! Following the events at of that rally, I began to focus on what I can do to get myself to New York. The first idea had been in the making for awhile- I had designed three rally-inspired stickers that I planned to sell at events and on the site. I had gone out and ordered them before Rim, and when they finally arrived, I was so excited! They looked awesome and I immediately set about creating a merchandise page for my site. Having never before sold anything online, I created a simple mail order form. Well, the great Moose informed me that I should use PayPal. So one night, at around 12 a.m. (because computer programming is always done better at night with tons of sugar and caffeine!) I began figuring out PayPal. It was totally easy, and I am quite proud of the appearance of the merch page now. I’m selling the stickers for $3 each, so please pick one up and help me get to New York! I’ve figured I’ll need $6,000 to get there and racing, so I’m already planning a yard sale and maybe a car wash and definitely taking my stickers on the road! If you have any cool fundraising ideas or leads or would like to co-drive for me (sorry, you’d have to pay your own way) or help out in any other way, shoot me an email! drivergirl@rallyestar.com.
Rallying is quite an expensive sport. Of course in this case the hardest part about getting to Rally NY is actually transporting the rally car. A cross-country trip costs a lot when you consider the food, rooms and fuel that the crew will need to get to and from the event (around $3,000). And the entry fee is pretty steep. US Rally Championship events cost around $1,000 to enter at the national level. Flights from LA to NY for Leon and I cost just under $1,000. And being a three-day rally with at least one day of recce, that leaves three people needing rooms for 4-5 nights and us out of $1,000. So $6,000 will hopefully get us to Rally NY. And this doesn’t include tires ($500) or spares…
If anyone can help us with any of the above items (or anything else for that matter), we’d all be very appreciative! Right now, we’ve got $100 in the Rally NY jar. Sponsors will be guaranteed a prime spot on my site, a place on the car, in the service area, a seat at the event (and if possible in the car), TV exposure (both USRC and Rally America are broadcast on national TV), and exposure to both a local and national audience. And of course, we’ll hook you up with all of the Rallye Star swag you desire!
Thanks for lending your ears to my ambitious cause! Please, if you have any ideas for fundraising or would like to help us out, please email me: drivergirl@rallyestar.com. Back to Diary of a Driver. |
